A controversy has erupted at the Guru Ghasidas Central University in Chhattisgarh after the vice-chancellor, Alok Kumar Chakrawal, asked writer Manoj Rupda to leave a seminar on contemporary Hindi literature. The incident occurred during a national seminar on 'Samkalin Hindi Kahani: Badalte Jeevan Sandarbh' on Wednesday. Chakrawal's comical interjection, which was perceived as an insult, turned into a heated argument. The writer responded by asking the vice-chancellor to address the topic, prompting Chakrawal to lash out at him. The vice-chancellor then asked Rupda to leave the room, sparking a brief argument before the writer departed. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from the literary community, with many calling for Chakrawal's removal. Madhav Kaushik, president of the Sahitya Akademi, has announced that the university will no longer receive funds or host the academy's seminars. Members of the Jan Sanskriti Manch have also condemned the incident, saying it reflects a lack of respect for literature and culture in Chhattisgarh. Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has also weighed in, calling the incident a 'stain on the position of Vice-Chancellor' and urging the Governor to take action. Manoj Rupda has reacted to the incident, saying it was an insult not just to him, but to the entire literary community. He has expressed his willingness to let the matter rest, but has emphasized that the protests are not just against the vice-chancellor, but against the mindset that constantly harasses people associated with art and literature.
