Tripura Student's Fatal Beating in Dehradun: Five Arrested, Suspects Named

A 24-year-old student from Tripura, Angel Chakma, succumbed to his injuries on December 26, two weeks after an alleged assault by a group of people in Dehradun's Selaqui area. The incident occurred on December 9, when Angel and his brother Michael got into a heated argument with another group at a canteen near a liquor shop. The attackers, who were allegedly intoxicated and used racial slurs, struck Angel with a sharp object and a 'kadaa' (bracelet), leaving him grievously injured. According to police, the group was arguing about something, and it seemed that someone was making a comment about Angel. Both Angel and his brother had consumed alcohol at the time of the incident. Five people have been arrested in connection with the attack, including two juveniles who have been sent to a correction home. The other accused are Avinash Negi, Suraj Khawas, Sumit, and a prime suspect from Nepal who lives in Haridwar. The BJP Tripura state General Secretary has condemned the incident, terming it 'deeply saddening' for the people of Tripura. The Chief Minister of Tripura has spoken with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, and those responsible will be brought to justice.
