Rahul Bhatia has taken over as interim CEO of Interglobe Aviation Ltd, following the resignation of Pieter Elbers. In an internal note, Bhatia expressed his deep sense of responsibility to the company's customers, shareholders, and employees.
He acknowledged the operational meltdown in December 2025, which led to the cancellation of over 2,500 flights and delayed nearly 1,900 more, affecting over 300,000 passengers.
The DGCA imposed a record fine of ₹22.20 crore and issued show-cause notices directly to Elbers. Bhatia promised to fix the mess and regain the airline's reputation for punctuality.
He sought the support of IndiGo employees to ensure that they regain their right of choice with customers and earn the distinction of being the pride of India.
IndiGo shares rose 3.46% to ₹4,382.45 apiece on the BSE, following Bhatia's return as interim CEO.
