Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey has sparked controversy with his recent social media post, where he asked Indians to stop targeting comedians. He made the statement in response to the backlash faced by comedian Pranit More, who was criticized for laughing at a disturbing remark made by an audience member during one of his shows.
The audience member, Himanshu Jangra, had made a comment about expecting physical intimacy from a woman after spending money on her meal during a date. While many people condemned Himanshu's comment, several others also criticized Pranit for laughing at the remark and promoting it on social media.
Ranvir took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, 'STOP OUTRAGING OVER COMEDY, INDIA! A SOCIETY THAT DISRESPECTS COMEDY AND COMEDIANS SLOWLY LOSES THE ABILITY TO INTROSPECT. JAI COMEDY! ' Many people believed he was referring to Pranit and criticized the actor for defending him.
However, Pranit has since apologized for his actions and deactivated his Instagram account. He stated that the comments made by the audience member do not reflect his views and that he should have challenged the remark instead of laughing and moving on.
