American comedian-actor Gianmarco Soresi recently visited India, performing in Mumbai and Bengaluru. He returned to New York impressed, comparing India to 'New York in advanced mode.'
Soresi found the energy of India's streets to be frenetic, but notes that you never feel alone in India. He enjoyed the food, but was monitored to avoid anything that might disrupt his stage performance.
Highlights of his trip included visiting the vegetable market in Mumbai at 5am, as well as the spice, flower, and fish markets. He found the inner workings of these markets to be chaotic and fascinating.
Soresi also found it amusing that Indians took pictures with him simply because he was white. He incorporated some of his experiences into his set, but found that being an American, he didn't have to change too much.
The comedian was excited to discover mallakhamb and take an actual yoga class after decades of practicing in America.
Soresi's takeaway from his visit was a newfound appreciation for Indian culture and a desire to return. He plans to be a salesman for visiting other countries and is looking forward to coming back to India.
