Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has spoken out about the box office performance of his film Nishaanchi, stating that he had anticipated a stronger response. Despite the setback, Kashyap remains unfazed, attributing it to his growing experience with commercial failures. During an interview at the teaser launch of his upcoming film Dacoit, News18 Showsha asked Kashyap if he was disheartened by Nishaanchi's performance. The filmmaker, known for his unflappable demeanor, quipped that he's become accustomed to such outcomes. When asked if he had expected more, Kashyap replied, "I probably expected a little bit more. I realised it on the second day," citing the film's simultaneous release on OTT platforms and his production partnership with Amazon as mitigating factors. Kashyap is currently making his acting debut in Telugu with Dacoit, which also stars Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur. The film is set to hit theaters in March 2024. When discussing Dacoit, Kashyap praised its unique style, which blends Hollywood-like cinematography with the sensibilities of Indian filmmaking. He expressed admiration for his co-stars, particularly Mrunal Thakur, whom he believes will deliver a breakout performance in the film. Nishaanchi, which marked the debut of Aaishvary Thackeray, grandson of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, was released in theaters on September 19. The crime drama explores the complex relationship between twin brothers caught between crime and conscience. The film, directed by Kashyap and written by Ranjan Chandel and Prasoon Mishra, features a star-studded cast, including Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. The second part of Nishaanchi skipped a theatrical release and premiered on Amazon Prime Video in November, continuing the story of the twin brothers as they navigate love, loss, and fate. The film was produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under the banner of Jar Pictures in partnership with Flip Films.
