Legendary singer Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 on April 12, leaving behind a legacy in the Indian music industry. Her son Anand and granddaughter Zanai visited Varanasi to perform the final rites and immerse her ashes in the Ganges, fulfilling her wishes.
Pictures and videos of the emotional ceremony have surfaced on social media, showing Zanai visibly upset as she wiped away tears during the pooja. Anand and Zanai followed traditional customs and prayers on the banks of the Ganga, accompanied by a boat.
Zanai had shared a moving tribute to her grandmother on Instagram, expressing her grief and missing her every second. Asha was given state honours and wrapped in an Indian flag as a mark of respect before her funeral procession proceeded to Shivaji Park crematorium.
Asha died due to multi-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital, where she was hospitalised for a chest infection and extreme exhaustion. She is survived by her son Anand and granddaughter Zanai, who have been receiving condolences from fans and well-wishers.
