Bengali actors Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Swastika Mukherjee have landed in trouble over their social media posts from 2021. An FIR has been lodged against them for allegedly making provocative comments on social media during the post-poll violence in West Bengal.
The complaint, filed by advocate Joydeep Sen, alleges that the actors' remarks could have incited political violence in the charged atmosphere following the assembly election results in May 2021.
Parambrata had posted on social media, "Let today be declared World Thrashing Day", while Swastika responded with "Hahaha, let it be". The complainant claims that such remarks contributed to an atmosphere of political hostility and violence during the post-poll unrest across the state.
The FIR has been registered under Section 107 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with abetment. An investigation has been initiated into the allegations, and the actors have not publicly reacted to the FIR so far.
