Bengali singer Lagnajita Chakraborty has spoken out about a disturbing incident that occurred during a private performance in Kolkata, West Bengal. According to Lagnajita, she was heckled and physically threatened after singing a devotional song at a school function. The incident unfolded when a man, identified as Mahboob Mallick, charged towards her with the intention of hitting her. Fortunately, the audience intervened, pulling him away from the stage. Lagnajita, who was performing at the school, had sung seven songs before the incident occurred. The 7th song, 'Jago Maa', from the movie Devi Chowdhurani, seemed to have triggered the man's reaction. As she interacted with the audience, Mallick suddenly rushed towards the stage, coming close to her face. The school was recording the concert, but Lagnajita doesn't have access to the footage. However, she believes that if the video becomes public, it will clearly show Mallick's intention to harm her. The man allegedly shouted, 'Enough of Jago Maa, now sing something secular', as the audience pulled him away. Lagnajita took issue with Mallick's use of the informal 'tu' when addressing her, which she felt was not part of their cultural norms. She has lodged a complaint at the Bhagwanpur Police Station and has expressed faith in the administration's ability to prevent such incidents in the future. The case is currently under investigation, with the Purba Medinipur police arresting the alleged accused, Mahboob Mallick. The incident has been termed 'unfortunate' by the local authorities. Lagnajita plans to continue singing 'Jago Maa' at her upcoming performances, including one in the Arambagh area, with the support of the police and administration.
