Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has praised the recent spy thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, for setting new benchmarks for Indian cinema. Gupta, who has previously shared glowing reviews for the film, believes that Dhurandhar, along with Animal and KGF, has raised the bar for upcoming movies. Gupta made his comments on X, noting that films like Dhurandhar, Animal, and KGF are 'dwarfing' movies that release after them. Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, was a blockbuster hit in 2023, sparking controversy over its portrayal of toxic masculinity and violence. The film's success led to the announcement of a sequel, Animal Park. KGF, a Kannada film starring Yash, was a game-changer for the industry, setting multiple box office records and becoming one of the highest-grossing films. The film's success was followed by a sequel in 2022. Sanjay Gupta had previously praised the casting in Dhurandhar, calling it 'impeccable' and 'spectacular.' He also commended the film's director, Aditya Dhar, saying it was a 'one-man show.' Dhurandhar, a spy thriller set in Pakistan, has already grossed over ₹500 crore in India in just three weeks of release, with Ranveer Singh playing an Indian spy infiltrating terror networks in Lyari, alongside a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan.
