Filmmaker Karan Johar has spoken out against the practice of paid publicity in Hindi cinema, saying it's becoming increasingly difficult to gauge audience reaction.

Speaking at a recent event, Karan emphasized the need for Bollywood to 'let their work do the talking' and reduce publicity and marketing.

He clarified that his comments were not targeted at any specific actor, but rather a general trend in the industry.

Paid PR has made it challenging to determine what's connecting with audiences and what's not, Karan said, adding that it's now common to question whether people are genuinely enjoying a film or have been paid to like it.

Karan Johar has recently produced several films under his Dharma Productions banner, including Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.

His last film as a director was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, which was a box office success.
