In a nostalgic move, the makers of Border 2 have brought back three original cast members - Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Sudesh Berry - in digitally de-aged cameos. Although only Sunny Deol from the original Border cast will have a major role in the sequel, the trio will reprise their iconic characters from the 1997 film. The decision to include them is a nod to the beloved movie and allows for a heartwarming reunion between father-son duo Suniel and Ahan Shetty on screen. As the story takes place during the 1971 India-Pakistan War, the digitally de-aged cast members will serve as peers to the new characters. The film's makers, Anurag Singh and producer-writer Nidhi Dutta, aimed to create a memorable experience by incorporating this segment. The characters from the original and new films will cross paths at an event before the war begins. The digitally de-aging process was used to make the actors appear younger, as 28 years have passed since the release of the original film. Akshaye and Sudesh filmed their portions in Mumbai, while Suniel's scenes were shot against a green screen, requiring special effects. Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, is set to release on January 23, 2026, and also features Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in the lead roles.
