In 2023, Charu Shankar played Ranbir Kapoor's character's mother in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal, marking the beginning of more such offers. However, she's now breaking free from typecasting in the film industry.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Charu discusses her recent role in Chand Mera Dil, where she plays Ananya Panday's mother, Nivedita. She says, 'Chand Mera Dil had a good love story and an interesting story arc,' which made her say yes to the film.

Charu also talks about her character's confrontation scene with Lakshya's character, saying, 'The entire energy of the room shifts when she stands up to Aarav for what he has done.' She adds that her character is 'fiercely supportive' of her daughter.

On breaking typecasting, Charu says, 'The industry tries to fit women into boxes and tropes, but I've never followed rules well.' She's excited about the era of 'exotic moms' on screen, where mothers are layered, ambitious, and complex.

Charu has an exciting slate of films lined up, including Ehsaas, Lil Fishies, and Pukam Pukai. She also dreams of playing a spy film, a horror movie, and an action film, saying, 'I would make an excellent villain.'
