Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has spoken out against Indian films that portray villains and criminals in a heroic light, saying it has 'spoiled' generations of Indians.

Addressing a cultural event in Varanasi, CM Adityanath urged filmmakers to produce content that inspires society, rather than glorifying negative characters.

He called on film directors and producers to make films that can inspire the present generation, warning that portraying villains as heroes can lead to the youth considering them as role models.

Adityanath's remarks were aimed at the tradition of anti-heroes in Indian cinema, which has depicted bandits and dacoits in a favourable or sympathetic light.

However, filmmakers have argued that mere stylised depiction cannot be considered glorification, and the trend is not limited to India alone.
