Comedian Pranit More has sparked controversy after an audience member made insensitive comments about women on his show, saying he deserved a 'return' on his investment after paying ₹370 for a plate of chicken biryani on a date.
Pranit appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) wearing a mask, but refused to comment on the matter.
The NCW had taken suo motu cognisance of the comment and had scheduled a hearing in the case on June 22.
Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed profound anguish and concern over such demeaning content being promoted and normalised in the name of comedy.
Pranit later apologised for the incident, saying the comments made by the audience member do not reflect his views.
