The Delhi High Court has taken a significant step to safeguard actor R Madhavan's personality rights by restraining websites and online platforms from using his name or images without consent for commercial purposes. This move comes as a response to numerous celebrities, including Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, who have also approached the court with similar requests. As per PTI, the high court has ordered the takedown of obscene content featuring Madhavan, which has been uploaded on the internet. In addition, the court has upheld the actor's personality rights and restrained the use of his personality traits. A detailed interim order is yet to be issued. Madhavan's lawyer, Senior Advocate Swathi Sukumar, had argued that the actor had already taken steps to address the infringing material on social media platforms before filing the lawsuit. Sukumar also highlighted that the defendant had created fake movie trailers for Shaitaan 2 and Kesari 3, claiming the movies were about to be released, and posted deepfake and AI-generated content featuring Madhavan. The court has indicated that some content could be made 'invisible,' but it is still considering the broader legal issues surrounding AI-generated material. The matter has been listed for further hearing in May 2026. Besides Madhavan, the court also heard similar personality rights suits filed by Telugu actor Jr NTR and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The court has stated that it will issue detailed interim orders in these cases. Madhavan has been actively involved in the film industry, starring in recent releases such as Hisaab Barabar, Kesari Chapter 2, Aap Jaisa Koi, De De Pyaar De 2, and Dhurandhar in Hindi, and Test in Tamil. He is set to appear in upcoming films like Dhurandhar 2 in Hindi, G.D.N, and Adhirshtasaali in Tamil.
