When Dwayne Johnson's performance in The Smashing Machine was overlooked by the Academy, he admits it affected him. However, he's using the snub as motivation to return to work.
In a recent interview, the Hollywood star addressed the Oscars snub, saying it 'lit a fire in my spine.'
The film, directed by Benny Safdie, saw Dwayne Johnson play mixed martial arts legend Mark Kerr. Although both Johnson and co-star Emily Blunt were snubbed at the Oscars, their film performed well in the awards season, earning Golden Globe nominations.
The film also won the Best Director award for Safdie at the Venice Film Festival and earned high praise from industry colleagues and legends like Christopher Nolan.
Despite struggling at the box office, Dwayne Johnson is set to reunite with the film's director, Benny Safdie, on the upcoming film, Lizard Music.
