Actor-filmmaker Andy Garcia's 20-year journey to bring his daughter's school assignment to life has finally come to fruition with the premiere of his noir thriller, Diamond, at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film, which stars Garcia, Bill Murray, and Dustin Hoffman, follows private detective Joe Diamond as he investigates the murder of a wealthy businessman in modern-day Los Angeles, but dressed in attire from the past.
Garcia, who also wrote and produced the film, drew inspiration from his daughter's homework assignment and spent years developing the story before production began a couple of years ago.
The film's unusual journey to the screen has made it a passion project for Garcia, who considers it like a child to him.
