House of the Dragon returns after a nearly two-year hiatus, diving straight into the brutal Battle of the Gullet in its season 3 premiere. The episode opens amid the fallout of past betrayals and fragile alliances, escalating into one of the bloodiest chapters in Westeros history.

The Season 2 finale left the realm on the brink of total chaos, with Alicent Hightower making a secret pact to surrender King's Landing to Rhaenyra Targaryen. Meanwhile, King Aegon snuck out of the capital with Larys Strong, leaving Prince Regent Aemond in charge.

The episode opens with Alicent Hightower moving first, pushing Aemond toward Harrenhal and clearing the path for Rhaenyra Targaryen. At Dragonstone, Rhaenyra sees a clean end to the war, but Tyland Lannister and Admiral Sharako Lohar arrive with the Triarchy fleet, catching the Velaryons off guard.

Rhaenyra prepares to fly into battle herself, but Jacaerys 'Jace' Velaryon refuses to let her go, taking Vermax into the sky himself with Baela Targaryen riding alongside him on Moondancer. The Battle of the Gullet erupts into full chaos, with Lord Corlys Velaryon leading the Black fleet on water and Jace and Baela striking from above.

However, complete disorder soon takes over the battlefield, and Jace is killed by three crossbow bolts after being dragged under the waves by a Triarchy grapnel. Despite this devastating loss, Team Black secures a technical victory, with Alyn of Hull killing the Triarchy commander, Admiral Sharako Lohar.

The Isle of Faces and Game of Thrones connection are also explored, with the dragonseeds, Ulf White, Hugh Hammer, and Addam of Hull, quietly stationed on the island, waiting for the right moment to strike at Aemond and his dragon, Vhagar.

The tension breaks when Ulf White wanders into the woods and comes across a black goat standing near the treeline, staring without moving. The moment feels unnatural, hinting at something far more deliberate at play.

The trailer for the season ahead gives a glimpse of what to expect, with Lord Corlys seemingly washed ashore, Rhaenyra consumed by vengeance, and Daemon standing ready to paint King's Landing red as the long-awaited Fall of the city approaches.
