Sriram Raghavan's war drama, Ikkis, has made a strong start at the box office, beating trade projections by a significant margin. The film, starring Agastya Nanda, has earned ₹7 crore net in India on its opening day, nearly three times the projected amount. This achievement is all the more impressive considering the competition from Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar, which had dominated the box office a day prior to Ikkis' release. Ikkis opened on 4,000 screens across India, after being delayed from December 25. The film's initial occupancy was around 12% in morning shows, but it saw a significant increase to 35% in the afternoon and 47% in the evening, indicating a promising trend. This growth will be crucial for Ikkis to achieve a respectable figure for its extended opening weekend. Trade predictions had forecast Ikkis to earn ₹2-2.5 crore net in India on its opening day, but it managed to defy expectations. Dhurandhar, which released a day prior to Ikkis, had earned ₹15 crore on its opening day. However, Ikkis' moderate performance is seen as a positive sign, as it didn't get completely overshadowed by Dhurandhar's momentum. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Ikkis is based on the life of Second Lt Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. The film stars Agastya Nanda as Khetarpal, with screen legend Dharmendra appearing in his final performance as Khetarpal's father. The film also features Jaideep Ahlawat and Deepak Dobriyal in key roles.
