Imtiaz Ali's highly anticipated romantic drama Main Vaapas Aaunga has opened to positive reviews, but its box office collection on day one has fallen short of expectations, collecting ₹1.15 crore net in India from 2302 shows with an occupancy of 11%. This is lower than his previous release Love Aaj Kal 2, which collected ₹12.40 crore net on its opening day in 2020.

Main Vaapas Aaunga tells the story of a 95-year-old man who suffers a stroke while trying to rush to Pakistan, and his grandson's attempts to piece together his pre-partition past. The film has been praised for its deeply human story and emotional heights, but its box office performance remains to be seen.
