Actor Ashika Ranganath has come to Janhvi Kapoor's defense amid the controversy surrounding the portrayal of her character in the sports action drama Peddi.
Ranganath, who works in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil films, urged viewers to question the system and not blame the actress.
In an Instagram post, she wrote, 'Don't blame the actress. Blame the system and the makers who still thinks this is what sells.'
The director of Peddi, Buchi Babu Sana, has also apologised to viewers who felt uncomfortable with certain scenes in the film.
Despite the controversy, the film has continued its strong run at the box office, crossing ₹150 crore worldwide.
