Chaganti argued that Janhvi should not be viewed as a victim in the controversy, citing the actress's history of playing 'eye candy' roles. She claimed that Janhvi has 'sexualised' every character through her costumes, making her body her 'whole image.'
The comments come amid criticism of the film's portrayal of Janhvi's character, Achiyyamma, with some viewers arguing that certain scenes blur the line between romance and consent. The film's director, Buchi Babu Sana, has since apologized for any perceived objectification or disrespect towards female characters.
Peddi has continued its strong run at the box office, crossing ₹150 crore worldwide despite the controversy. The film stars Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani.
