Actor Juhi Babbar is hopeful that her stint in the light-hearted film 'The Great Shamsuddin Family' will inspire directors to cast her in more comedic roles. Babbar, who has primarily worked in theatre, feels that her stage performances are often associated with intense drama, but she's eager to break out of that mold. The film, which boasts an ensemble cast of women from different generations, has been praised by filmmaker Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi and actor Naseeruddin Shah. Babbar has been receiving accolades for her tongue-in-cheek humour in the movie, which has gained popularity through word of mouth. 'I'm still fairly new in people's minds, and I don't have a set image,' Babbar said in an interview. 'I've been around for 20 years, but I've not been there. I hope the directors get inspired and offer me different kinds of work.' Babbar, who is also the eldest child in her real-life family, said that her role in 'The Great Shamsuddin Family' came naturally to her. She played the character of Humaira, the older sister to Bani and Iram, played by Shreya Dhanwanthary. The film, which follows Bani Ahmed as she navigates a 12-hour writing sprint amidst family chaos, has resonated with audiences from different strata. Babbar credited the film's success to the ensemble cast, which includes actors like Sheeba Chaddha, Farida Jalal, and Dolly Ahluwalia. Babbar, who began her acting journey with theatre at the age of 21, said that two of her plays helped put her back on track. She expressed gratitude towards directors like Rizvi and Hansal Mehta for offering her roles in 'The Great Shamsuddin Family' and 'Faraaz', in which she played actor Zahan Kapoor's mother. The actor, who is married to actor Anup Soni, said that her husband's cameo appearance in the film was a surprise for audiences. Babbar credited the film's makers for approaching her and her husband directly for the role, saying that it was a 'fantastic surprise' for the audience. With 'The Great Shamsuddin Family' gaining popularity, Babbar is hopeful that she'll get more opportunities to showcase her acting skills in different roles.
