Actor and MNM President Kamal Haasan has urged the Union Government to convene a special session of Parliament to implement a 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies immediately.
Kamal Haasan expressed concern that linking women's reservation to delimitation risks creating regional imbalances and undermined India's federal balance.
He backed a new Private Member's Bill introduced by P Wilson, which proposes extending the freeze on delimitation till 2051, giving states time to achieve population stabilisation through women empowerment.
Kamal Haasan urged the Union Government to pass the Bill or introduce an equivalent legislation without delay, citing states like Tamil Nadu as models for women-centric development and population stabilisation.
