Karnataka's medical education minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil has announced plans to introduce comprehensive guidelines ensuring cadavers are treated with dignity and respect.

The move comes after a medical student made a joke about male dead bodies, sparking outrage and disciplinary action.

Protocols already exist, but this will be the country's first formal framework specifically to ensure dignity, respect, and ethical conduct for donated bodies during the teaching process.

Disciplinary action will be taken for violations, and the ethics committee will meet to discuss how to reiterate existing guidelines on medical students' conduct regarding cadavers.
