Singer Kumar Sanu has taken a shocking step against his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya, filing a ₹50 crore defamation suit against her. Rita, however, is refusing to back down, calling the allegations 'false' and a 'desperate attempt' to harass her. In an exclusive interview with Bombay Times, Rita expressed her shock and frustration over the lawsuit. 'I'm the mother of his three grown-up sons, and he's trying to intimidate me with a ₹50 crore lawsuit. It's not just about me; it's about our children's lives being affected by this drama,' she said. Rita and Kumar Sanu were married in 1986 and separated in 1994. They have three sons, with the youngest being 31 years old. Rita's recent interviews and social media posts have allegedly damaged Kumar Sanu's reputation, leading to the defamation suit. However, Rita maintains that her allegations against Kumar Sanu are true and that she's simply speaking out against his mistreatment of her during their marriage. 'I'm not asking for love; I'm asking for respect. If you can't love us, at least don't disturb us and don't harass us anymore,' she said. The couple's divorce agreement in 2001 stipulated that neither party would make allegations against the other. Rita claims that Kumar Sanu is breaching this contract by pursuing the defamation suit. As the case unfolds in the Bombay High Court, Rita remains resolute in her decision to stand up for herself and her family. 'I'll see him in court, and I'll request him to be a good human being and a good father to our children,' she said.
