Legendary singer Asha Bhosle, a stalwart of modern Indian music, has passed away at the age of 92. The singer was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital on Saturday after experiencing cardiac and respiratory issues. Sources revealed that Bhosle had not been keeping well for the last few months and was brought to the hospital in a critical state.

Bhosle's son, Anand, confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon, and the last rites will be conducted tomorrow.

Asha Bhosle's illustrious career spanned over seven decades, during which she established herself as one of the most successful, popular, and prolific singers of Indian cinema. Born in 1933 into the musical Mangeshkar family, Asha began singing professionally at the age of 9 and recorded her first film song in 1943.

Over the next three decades, she was among the most sought-after performers by most composers, singing a wide range of genres, from cabaret numbers to ghazals. Bhosle was a seven-time winner of the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award and a two-time winner of the National Film Award.

In a 2023 interview with Hindustan Times, the singer spoke about the contemporary music landscape, stating that she rarely listened to music but appreciated the work of singers like Bhimsen Joshi, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Sunidhi Chauhan.

Bhosle's personal life was marked by a topsy-turvy journey, including an elopement at the age of 16 and two marriages. Her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, was a constant companion in her final years.
