Newly released text messages have shed light on the troubled relationship between Mackenzie Shirilla and her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, before a fatal car crash in Ohio.
According to the messages, Shirilla accused Russo of trying to kill her just weeks before the deadly crash, which killed Russo and his friend, Davion Flanagan.
The messages, obtained by TMZ, showed Shirilla sending graphic texts threatening to harm herself and others, including 'I'm gonna kill someone' and 'I f**king hate myself.'
Russo, who was 20 at the time, tried to end the relationship gently in the weeks before his death, writing to Shirilla, 'Kenzie u know i love u but i don't think we should be together at this point.'
Prosecutors argued that Shirilla wanted to murder Russo after their troubled relationship fell apart and that the act was fully premeditated.
Shirilla, 21 at the time, was found guilty on all 12 charges and sentenced to two concurrent 15-year-to-life terms in August 2023.
