Salim Kumar's death has left the Malayalam film industry in shock. The actor had undergone a liver transplant a few years ago and was admitted to the hospital earlier in the day after developing sudden health complications. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Mammootty and Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan have mourned the actor's death, remembering his contributions to Malayalam cinema. Salim Kumar had appeared in over 300 films, including Thenkasipattanam, Ee Parakkum Thalika, and Meesa Madhavan. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his powerful performance in Adaminte Makan Abu.
