Manoj Bajpayee has become a household name in India with his diverse roles in films. In a recent interview, he discussed his latest film, Governor, which recounts the story of S. Venkitaramanan, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. The film, directed by Chinmay D. Mandlekar, is a thriller that explores the RBI Governor's role in saving India from the 1990 economic crisis.
Manoj Bajpayee, who plays the lead role of S. Venkitaramanan, transformed into a 60-year-old Tamil bureaucrat for the film. He discussed how he adopted the Tamil accent and ensured it didn't look gimmicky. He also shared an anecdote about his encounter with the late Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray, who was baffled to learn that Manoj was not Marathi.
Manoj Bajpayee emphasized the importance of not underestimating the audience in Indian cinema. He stated that every person views art according to their own experience, education, and upbringing, and that filmmakers should cater to their audience's intelligence. He also acknowledged that a section of Indian cinema has been guilty of dumbing down, but believes that commercial film directors and producers have improved in this regard.
