Actor Parvathy was at the center of a massive trolling storm after she spoke out against a misogynistic scene in the 2016 Malayalam film Kasaba. The actress had pointed out a scene that she found problematic and questioned the film's lead actor, Mammootty, for delivering the dialogue. She was mercilessly trolled and even received rape and death threats online, prompting her to file a complaint that led to the arrest of two individuals.
In a recent interview, Parvathy reflected on the experience, saying, '20 days after whatever statement I made, I noticed it was not about me. It was about all women.' She praised the way women came together in support of her, and noted that she received backing from some men in the community who recognized that her comments were about having an opinion and sticking to it.
Parvathy also spoke about the success of her film Uyare, which was released a year after the Kasaba controversy. Despite a boycott call against her, the film became a massive hit in Kerala, where the audience is known for their love-hate relationship with celebrities. Parvathy expressed her gratitude to the audience for celebrating her work and for being open to change.
Parvathy is a National Award-winning actor who has acted in a range of films, including Take Off, Uyire, Qarib Qarib Single, Charlie, Maryan, and Bangalore Days. She will soon be seen in several upcoming projects, including the Malayalam films Pradhama Dhrishtya Kuttakkar and I, Nobody, as well as the Prime Video series The Storm, which is being produced by Hrithik Roshan's HRX Films.
