Renowned Indian photographer Raghu Rai has passed away at 83 after a two-year battle with cancer. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar paid tribute to the late photographer, saying his camera was a compass for truth.
Rai's illustrious career spanned over five decades, during which he worked with Magnum Photos and appeared on the front pages of Time, Life, and The New Yorker magazines.
He covered pivotal national events, including the Bangladesh Liberation War, the Bhopal gas tragedy, and the Ganga ghats. Rai was also a prolific author, having published over 18 books.
He was honoured with the Padma Shri and the Lucie Foundation's Master of Photojournalism awards. Rai's work was a meditation on life, and he will be deeply missed and forever celebrated.
