Ranbir Kapoor's blockbuster film Animal is set to return to the big screen, this time in Japan, two years after its original release. The highly anticipated re-release, announced on social media, marks a significant move for the Indian film industry in the Japanese market. Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, is expected to get a wide release in Japan on February 13, 2026. The film, which originally grossed ₹553 crore net in India and ₹915 crore worldwide, is now aiming to reach the ₹1000 crore mark. However, its chances of achieving this milestone may be affected by the recent success of Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, which is expected to cross the ₹1000 crore mark soon. Animal's Japanese release comes at a time when Indian films have been performing exceptionally well in the country. RRR and KGF Chapter 2 have already made significant box office collections in Japan, earning ₹150 crore and ₹70 crore, respectively. If Animal can replicate this success, it may be able to reclaim its spot as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. The film, which starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri, was a subject of controversy due to its excessive violence and misogynistic tones. Director Vanga defended the film, stating that it was a part of creative liberty. With its re-release in Japan, Animal is once again making headlines and is expected to be a major contender for the ₹1000 crore mark.
