Actor Rasika Dugal strongly advocates sustainable fashion and creating an impactful movement against battling air pollution. On Earth Day, she shares her thoughts on why saving Mother Earth is not just about a choice for anyone anymore.
"I think in order to address a problem, it first has to be acknowledged—both at the policy-making level and by civil society," she says. "This isn’t as daunting as it might seem. It can begin with something as simple as looking a little deeper into that reel you just scrolled past or the headline you just read...This, I believe, is no longer a choice...but a responsibility."
Rasika emphasizes the need to focus on air pollution with alarmingly increasing AQIs. She personally makes changes to her own life by choosing sustainable fashion, trying to understand what goes into making fabric in a sustainable way, and being more conscious about caring for her clothes.
The actor believes that cinema can help heal Earth, but doesn’t think films have to come with visible messaging. She cites Shaunak Sen’s Academy Award-nominated film All That Breathes as one of the most impactful films advocating for the earth and all beings.
