Nostalgia and the 'fear of missing out' are driving the growing popularity of movie re-releases in theatres, according to PVR INOX Limited's lead strategist Niharika Bijli.

Classic titles are being programmed alongside new releases to fill screens and draw audiences who may have missed a film during its original run or want to relive the experience.

Bijli cited successful re-releases of films like Tumbbad, Rockstar, Sanam Teri Kasam, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Interstellar, saying they have 'aged very well' and gained new fans.

Social media plays a significant role, especially for films from the 1990s and early 2000s, whose music remains popular.

Bijli also highlighted the importance of initiatives like the David Dhawan Film Festival, which showcases iconic Hindi comedies to introduce them to newer audiences.
