The first trailer for Sony's upcoming Resident Evil film has sparked a wave of frustration among fans of the beloved horror franchise. Directed by Zach Cregger, the film takes a different approach from what most fans expected, focusing on a brand new protagonist in a Raccoon City outbreak. The reaction on X was largely negative, with many fans feeling the trailer had almost nothing to do with the games they grew up with.

Some fans pointed out the lack of iconic elements from the games, such as the RPD, Umbrella, and familiar game music. Others felt that the trailer did not deliver on the Resident Evil experience, with one user writing, 'It LITERALLY has nothing from Resident Evil....like LITERALLY NOTHING.'

However, a few users had a positive take on the film, suggesting that it could be a fun take on the universe without replacing the main characters. The Resident Evil franchise has a long and deep history, with over a dozen games and six films grossing over $1.2 billion at the global box office.
