Sanjay Dutt is set to reprise his iconic role as Ballu in the upcoming sequel to the 1993 cult classic, Khal Nayak. The actor announced the new film, Khalnayak Returns, at an event in Mumbai, revealing that he got the idea for the sequel while serving his jail term.

Jointly produced by Sanjay's Three Dimension Motion Pictures and Aspect Entertainment, the sequel has secured the rights from filmmaker Subhash Ghai and his company Mukta Arts. A brief teaser of the film was unveiled, showcasing Sanjay in a rugged new avatar as Ballu.

Sanjay thanked Subhash Ghai for making the original film and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to revive the iconic character. The actor revealed that he asked 4,000 inmates in jail to write about a potential sequel, and after reading their responses, he convinced Subhash Ghai to bring the idea to life.

The original film, directed and produced by Ghai, is remembered as one of the biggest hits of the 1990s and has attained cult status over the years. The makers have not revealed the nature of the sequel, whether it's a direct sequel, a reimagination, or a remake, and the script remains under wraps.
