Telugu actor Sivaji appeared before the Telangana State Commission for Women on Saturday, following a summons to address his 'inappropriate' comments at a film event. During the inquiry, he offered a heartfelt apology for his remarks and acknowledged his mistake, stating that he would strive to treat women with dignity and respect moving forward. The Commission's Chairperson, Nerella Sharada, questioned Sivaji on how one could justify harassment by attributing it to a woman's attire. The incident began with a video posted by Sivaji on social media, where he apologized for using 'unparliamentary' words during a speech at the event for the film 'Dhandora' on December 22. Sivaji had initially claimed that the comments were made inadvertently while trying to offer advice to female actors to be mindful of their attire in public events. However, the Commission noted that this response was not only insensitive but also shifted the focus away from the organizers' responsibility to ensure the safety of women artistes. The Commission has now called on film producers and directors to take responsibility for portraying women's roles and costumes in a respectful manner. It has also instructed event organizers to prioritize the safety and security of women artistes in film promotion events, condemning remarks that harm society and particularly women's dignity as unacceptable.
