SS Rajamouli has confirmed that his upcoming film Varanasi will be a standalone film, unlike Baahubali, and not a franchise. The director revealed this during a masterclass at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. He also spoke about what audiences can expect from the film, stating that it will be an experience of the cold and ice of Antarctica, the gods of Ramayana, natural disasters, and fantastic elements, all centered around the emotions of a father and son.

Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj, and Priyanka Chopra, is a globe-trotting adventure that blends mythology and Indian folklore with sci-fi elements such as time travel. The film marks Priyanka Chopra's return to Indian cinema after an eight-year gap and is expected to be released in April 2027.
