Disclosure Day review: Emily Blunt, and a stunning climax, save a highly indulgent Steven Spielberg film. | Hollywood

Director Steven Spielberg returns to the science fiction genre with Disclosure Day, a film that explores the search for extraterrestrial life. The movie follows Daniel Kellner (Josh O'Connor), a cybersecurity expert, and Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt), a Kansas meteorologist, as they try to uncover the truth about aliens and save the world from a global war. The film is both a thrill-a-minute ride and a philosophical question about who is more dangerous to Earth - aliens or humans themselves. While Spielberg fumbles and falters at times, he eventually finds his footing and delivers a climax sequence for the ages. With a talented cast, including Colin Firth and Eve Hewson, Disclosure Day is a mid-tier film by Spielberg's standards but a standout in any other director's filmography.
