Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai has confirmed that the script of Taal 2 is almost complete. The 81-year-old director has been working on the sequel to the 1999 cult classic film Taal, which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor.
Ghai shared in an exclusive interview with HT City that he has been facing the question of when he would make Taal again for 15 years. He believes that the energy of the original film is still powerful, and even Gen-Z is asking him to remake it.
However, Ghai emphasized that making a sequel is not as easy as it seems. He explained that the purity of the original film was a key factor in its success, and that he is now thinking about whether the time is right to make Taal 2.
Ghai also discussed the importance of casting in making a successful film. He praised the casting of Mohit Suri and Aditya Chopra's 2025 blockbuster Saiyaara, which starred Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. He believes that the faces of the actors were new and innocent, which made the film memorable.
When asked if he would be open to casting the Saiyaara actors in Taal 2, Ghai said that they have become stars, but the characters in Taal 2 need to be new. He also shared that Akshaye Khanna is like family to him and they still hang out often.
