Actor Ulka Gupta, known for her role in Jhansi Ki Rani, recently spoke about facing colourism in the entertainment industry. She recalled being rejected for her darker skin tone as a child actor and how the obsession with fair skin continues to exist in Bollywood.

Ulka Gupta, who has appeared in shows like Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi and Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, said that when she was auditioning for roles as a child, there would often be a note outside that read, 'Only fair kids'. She would travel all the way to Andheri and Worli just to get rejected.

She further explained how deeply rooted the obsession with fair skin was in the industry, recalling times when makeup artists would apply foundation that was two or three shades lighter than her actual skin tone, making her feel 'really disgusted'. Ulka also revealed that she was often considered 'less suitable' for glamorous roles because she did not fit the conventional fair-skinned heroine stereotype.

Ulka has appeared in several television shows and films, including The Kerala Story 2 and is now awaiting the release of her upcoming film Rajni Ki Baraat, scheduled to release on May 29.
