Matka King, the latest Prime Video show, is a huge success, beating bigger names. The show's premise, about a 1960s Mumbai gambling baron, is fictional but borrows from the real-life rise and fall of Ratan Khatri.

The show's story of Brij Bhatti (Vijay Varma) includes his love for Bollywood, inspired by Khatri's real-life experience. Khatri financed several films in the 1970s and even had a brief career as a film producer.

In the show, Brij meets film star Maqsood (Cyrus Sahukar) and invests in his film, but is humiliated when not invited onto the stage. The real-life Maqsood character was based on comedy legend Mehmood, who starred in several mid-budget films in the 1960s and 1970s.

Directed by Nagraj Manjule, Matka King stars Vijay Varma, Kritika Kamra, and Cyrus Sahukar in pivotal roles, with guest appearances by Vineet Kumar Singh.
