Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the producer of The Kerala Story 2, has reacted strongly to Sudipto Sen's criticism of the film's research. Sen, the director of the first film, had claimed that the sequel was based on WhatsApp forwards, but later clarified that his remarks had been misconstrued.
In an interview with India Today, Vipul Amrutlal Shah said that Sen's script for The Kerala Story 2 was 'absolutely trash' and that he had chosen not to make the film with Sen at the helm. He also claimed that Sen was not part of the research process for the sequel.
The Kerala Story 2 has been embroiled in controversy, with a plea seeking to cancel its censor certificate being filed in the Kerala High Court. However, the court later lifted the stay on the film's release, allowing it to go ahead as planned.
The film, which tells the story of three women who become victims of an abusive plot after marrying outside their religion, has received mixed reviews from audiences and has so far collected only ₹20.15 crore at the domestic box office.
