A major theft allegedly took place at Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti's production office, Tiger Baby Digital LLP, in Mumbai. 66 hard discs containing sensitive production data were stolen and sold. Zoya has confirmed the robbery, but revealed that the production house had backup copies of the content.
Zoya Akhtar said, 'Yes, there has been a robbery in my office, hard disks have been stolen. We filed a complaint and police have made some arrests as well. It's an internal job, it's sad to what extent people go to make money. Luckily we have backup files of everything.'
An staffer, Shahid Khan, was arrested in connection with the case after Mehjabeen Mushtaq Shaikh, an executive assistant, filed an FIR. Khan allegedly stole 24 hard drives over the past 5 months and sold them for ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 each to a man identified as Ritesh in Borivali.
The production company had informed the police that a total of 119 hard drives were missing from the production office. The data was worth ₹13 lakh.
Tiger Baby Films, founded by Zoya Akhtar in 2015, has backed critically acclaimed films like Superboys of Malegaon and the web show Dahaad. Zoya herself last directed The Archies, which marked the debut of star kids like Khushi Kapoor and Suhana Khan.
