Afghanistan's deputy government spokesman said 400 people were killed after a Pakistan airstrike at a treatment centre for drug addicts in Kabul.

Loud explosions rocked the city at 9:00 pm local time, prompting return anti-aircraft fire and forcing locals to run for cover in panic.

Afghanistan Health Ministry spokesman Sharafat Zaman said all parts of the drug treatment hospital had been destroyed.

Pakistan rejected Afghanistan's allegation that its airstrikes hit a hospital in Kabul, calling the claim 'false and misleading.'

India slammed Pakistan's strikes, calling it a 'cowardly and unconscionable act of violence' that claimed the lives of a large number of civilians.

China urged all sides to remain calm and exercise restraint amid rising tensions.
