Authorities in Barcelona have confirmed the death of James 'Jimmy' Gracey, a 20-year-old University of Alabama student who went missing during a trip to Spain.
Early findings suggest the incident was an accident, not a criminal act, and the body was discovered on Somorrostro beach in front of the Shoko nightclub where Gracey was last seen.
Gracey, a junior from Elmhurst, Illinois, had arrived in Barcelona for spring break and was last seen around 3 a.m. outside the nightclub after becoming separated from his group.
Police launched an extensive search operation, reviewing surveillance footage, retracing his movements, and interviewing witnesses, before finding his phone and eventually his body on the beach.
Gracey's family described his disappearance as 'completely out of character' and expressed gratitude for the support of the community.
