Amazon has refuted claims that operations continued at its US facility in Troutdale, Oregon, after an employee died on the job. The company stated that the incident occurred due to a pre-existing medical issue and that employees were sent home with full pay after the area was evacuated.
According to Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel, the onsite team provided CPR and deployed an automated defibrillator until emergency medical services arrived. Nantel also stated that any employee who requested time off after the incident was given so, and grief counsellors were provided to those who needed them.
The company has denied claims that work inside the facility continued after the employee collapsed, stating that the area was immediately cordoned off while the employee received care.
