Apple CEO Tim Cook announced his departure from the role, with John Ternus set to take over as CEO on September 1, 2026. Cook will remain as executive chairman. In a memo to employees, Cook stated it was the 'right time' for the transition.

Cook, who joined Apple in 1998 and became CEO in 2011, will step down after over 15 years in the role. His move is similar to those made by Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Netflix's Reed Hastings.

John Ternus, Apple's chief of hardware engineering, will replace Cook as CEO. Ternus has overseen the tech behind the iPhone, iPad, and Mac for the past five years. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to carry Apple's mission forward.

Ternus will step away from his existing role immediately, handing the reins to Tom Marieb. He thanked Apple employees for their hard work and dedication.
